E Ink is the same company responsible for the panels in the Kindle eReaders

CES is definitely a lofty ground for many new interesting products to be spotted, but that doesn't mean a lot of strange ones don’t surface, as well.

And some are actually designed by well-known companies, like E Ink, producer of the famous Kindle screens. This year at CES, E Ink has paraded a pretty unusual prototype of a meter-long digital clock with e massive E Ink screen.

The tweak is that the immense timer is actually powered by a minuscule average watch battery, which is reportedly supposed to provide power for up to one year. Unfortunately, the clock is not very readable (at least in the dark colored versions), but on the upside of things, it’s extremely light.

If you’re ready to shrug this off as another wacky invention, don’t be so hasty. Boston-based company Twelve24 has actually announced its intention of selling the device, dubbed the ClockOne.

Maybe such a product will find its utility in a mall or in a bank, and those purchasing it have the opportunity to choose between six colors (lighter colors will make it easier for you to read time).

When it becomes available, the time-measuring machine should sell for $499 /€367 which is quite a lot if you ask me.
