Luxury brand wows again: meet the Magic Gold timepiece

Hublot is well known for its expensive, one of a kind watches. Soon enough, the luxury brand will add another timepiece to its incredible offering: the Magic Gold timepiece, made of 18-carat indestructible gold.

Gold alloy (18-carat gold) is prone to scratches, so a piece of jewelry made of it shows the signs of time shortly after it's taken out of the box, especially if it's worn on a daily basis – such is the case of a watch.

To prevent this from ever happening with a Hublot piece, the luxury brand has patented a new type of alloy, one that is practically indestructible, the Daily Mail reports.

The Hublot 18-carat gold that goes into the making of the Magic Gold watch is so hard that the company can't even stamp it with a logo, which basically means it will be just as shiny and scratch-free years after it was bought.

It can only be scratched with a diamond.

“Hublot's new alloy is the first 18-carat gold that isn't – It's actually harder on the Vickers scale of hardness than most tempered steel,” the Mail writes.

“When it emerged from Hublot's machines after the production process, it oozed out as a black mass. It was only when the watchmakers polished the gold that it revealed its true, shining color,” the British publication goes on to say.

The alloy will be used for the exterior bezel of the watches, meaning the surface most likely to come in contact with other surfaces and get scratched.

It will, in other words, revolutionize the industry – and Hublot is quite aware of that.

“Today, we are all familiar with 18-carat gold as a high-quality gold alloy used in jewelry, watches and works of art. But even in 18k gold alloys, the metal is still easily prone to scratches and dings; a downside which most wearers know all too well,” Hublot says.

The Magic Gold timepiece will go on sale in March. The price hasn't yet been revealed, but considering this is Hublot we're talking about, don't expect it to come too cheap.
