Chinese mobile phone maker Huawei is reportedly planning the launch of a new high-end smartphone in the near future, in the form of Huawei Ascend D3, and some more info on the smartphone is now available.

The upcoming device is currently said to be powered by a 1.8GHz octa-core processor, one that is based on ARM’s big.LITTLE architecture, and which is being developed by Huawei themselves.

The info comes from HuaweiNews, which notes that the CPU inside this handset will be the HiSilicon Kirin 920 Octa-Core and none other.

The CPU packs a quad-core Cortex A7 processor, paired with a quad-core Cortex A9 chip, which means that it won’t be able to use all of its eight cores at the same time.

A similar processor is currently being used inside Samsung’s Galaxy S4 and Galaxy Note 3 devices, which are based on their maker’s Exynos chipset, also taking advantage of the aforementioned big.LITTLE technology.

Rumor has it that Huawei would be planning the launch of Ascend D3 at the upcoming Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, though a specific confirmation on the matter has yet to be provided.

We do know that the Chinese vendor is planning a press event for the trade fair, though it remains to be seen whether the Ascend D3 will indeed be showcased there or not.

As UnwiredView notes, Huawei’s Ascend D series usually includes the company’s very high-end smartphones, and the upcoming model might not be different either. In fact, it is expected to arrive on shelves with a 6.3 mm thin body, a 5-inch screen that might be able to deliver a full HD resolution, and a 16-megapixel camera on the back, with full HD video recording capabilities as well.

Additional details on the smartphone should become available in the near future, so keep an eye on this space to learn more on the matter.
