The recently unveiled Optimus Stockholm entry-level Android smartphone has just made its appearance at the FCC (Federal Communications Commission), which means that a launch in North America is imminent.

Enlisted as Huawei X1, Huawei 8180, as well as Huawei Gaga, the smartphone has been approved by FCC to work on the GSM 850 / 1900 and WCDMA 850 bands for the moment.

Furthermore, it will be interesting to see if the Chinese handset manufacturer signed some sort of an agreement with the music star, so it can use her name.

We seriously doubt that this is the case, so we might see Huawei launching its low-budget under a different moniker.

On related news, the Huawei X1 or Huawei Gaga was launched in Portugal by a local carrier called Optimus.

Apparently, it's a branded Huawei X1, so it is known as Optimus Stockholm in Portugal, but Orange plans to pick the phone as well and spread it across all Europe.

In terms of hardware, the X1 is indeed a low-end handset, but Huawei makes it worthwhile when it comes to software.

Although the phone is powered a slow-performing Qualcomm MSM7225 processor which is clocked at 528 MHz, the X1 runs Google's Android 2.2 (Froyo).

There's no information regarding a possible software upgrade in the future, but it is highly unlikely that the phone will receive the Gingerbread update.

It also packs 256MB RAM, 512MB ROM, as well as microSD card slot for memory expansion (up to 32GB).

The device has a small 2.8-inch QVGA capacitive touchscreen with 240 x 320 resolution and accelerometer, as well as a mediocre 3.2-megapixel camera and FM radio

Huawei X1 features HSDPA support and offers users multiple connectivity options, such as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and GPS with A-GPS support.

As soon as the device receives FCC's full approval, we might see several North-American carriers picking it up for release.
