Shortly after Huawei’s Chairman Yu Chengdong leaked a few of the devices that the Chinese company plans to launch at this year’s Mobile World Congress, in Barcelona, the same official published several pictures of the upcoming Ascend D1 Q smartphone.
Huawei Ascend D1 Q would be the Chinese handset manufacturer’s first quad-core smartphone and is expected to be officially announced on February 26.
Huawei plans to launch more devices at the MWC 2012 trade fair, but only a certain MediaPad 10 has been confirmed for the moment.
Earlier last month, Huawei confirmed plans to launch a new series of Android smartphones, more powerful than ever.
Dubbed “Diamond,” the new lineup of handsets would be Huawei’s top-tier smartphones, which also includes at least one quad-core device.
In this regard, Huawei aims to be the first handset maker to launch a quad-core Android phone on the market. Although Huawei has yet to confirm any of the smartphone’s specs sheet, it’s clear that the “Q” letter stands for “quad-core,” just as the “S” from Ascend P1 S stands for “slim.”
Those unfamiliar with Huawei’s latest Android phone announced last month at the International Consumer Electronics Show, the Ascend P1 S is the slimmest LTE-enabled smartphone at only 6.68mm.
Huawei Ascend P1 S is powered by Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich and packs a dual core TI OMAP 4460 processor clocked at 1.5 GHz, complemented by a PowerVR SGX540 graphics processing unit.
It also boasts a brilliant 4.3-inch Super AMOLED qHD capacitive touchscreen with Corning Gorilla Glass coating and support for 960 x 540 pixels resolution.
According to the latest hearsay, Huawei Ascend D1 Q will be shipped with Ice Cream Sandwich on board as well, but it will be equipped with a quad-core chipset.
Huawei planned to reveal part of its 2012 lineup this Sunday, in Barcelona. Softpedia will be there to report on the latest devices announced by the Chinese company.
