With a bit more than a month left until Mobile World Congress 2012 kicks off, many handset manufacturers are teasing their upcoming devices, which are expected to be showcased during the trade fair.

Chinese handset manufacturer Huawei had a decent presence earlier this month at the International Consumer Electronics Show, where it launched two new Android smartphones, the Ascend P1 and Ascend P1 S.

Huawei Device chairman Richard Yu told TWICE that the smartphones would arrive in Europe by the end of March and were expected to be available in the United States in mid-2012.

In addition, Huawei’s official confirmed that a CDMA version with 4G LTE was also planned for the U.S. smartphone market. The device was already showcased at CES 2012 earlier this month and is expected to arrive in stores later this year.

However, it appears that the company has bigger plans for the Android smartphone market, as the handset maker plans to launch a new series of smartphones. Dubbed Diamond, the series of smartphones will be announced next month at the Mobile World Congress 2012, in Barcelona.

According to TWICE, citing Huawei’s Richard Wu, Diamond series of smartphones “will take performance a step higher.” Considering that Huawei’s current Android smartphones are already tagged as high-end, it will be interesting to see what else the Chinese company can offer.

Given the fact that Huawei Ascend P1 S is equipped with a 1.5 GHz dual core processor and runs Ice Cream Sandwich operating system, we can safely assume that Huawei will probably announce better devices, possibly powered by a quad-core CPUs.

It is also worth mentioning that the Ascend P1 S also boasts an impressive 8-megapixel camera with autofocus, dual-LED flash and full HD (1080p) video recording, as well as 1GB of RAM, 4GB of ROM and microSD card slot for memory expansion (up to 32GB).
