Officially introduced last month in Australia, Huawei's IDEOS X5 device has been showcased at the CES 2011 in Las Vegas. Along with the press release announcing the smartphone, more information about its spec sheet has been disclosed.

The latest addition of the IDEOS series of smartphone, the IDEOS X5 comes with Android 2.2 out-of-the-box, along with excellent browsing and high definition video experiences.

According to the manufacturer, the slim touchscreen phone features excellent Internet browsing capabilities as well as high-speed connectivity. The phone measures 120 x 62 x 11.4 mm, which makes it one of the slimmest Android smartphones manufactured by Huawei.

Speaking at a press event at the International Consumer Electronics Show, Victor Xu, chief marketing officer of Huawei Device, said:

“We are excited to launch the next generation IDEOS: the X5 smartphone. This smartphone is a new alternative to traditional brands and competes well in terms of design and functionality. IDEOS X5 offers the latest technology at a price that’s right.”

The device is powered by a Qualcomm MSM 7230 800 MHz processor and includes a large 3.8-inch TFT capacitive touchscreen with 16 million colors and 480 x 800 pixels resolution.

The IDEOS X5 provides users with efficient solutions including document-processing capabilities supporting Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Adobe PDF formats, as well as email functionality through Gmail and Exchange mailboxes.

In terms of connectivity, IDEOS X5 offers high speed data transfers through HSPA and Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n.

Other key features of the smartphone include: accelerometer sensor for auto-rotate, touch-sensitive controls, 5-megapixel camera with autofocus, LED flash, as well as 720p high definition video recording and playback, FM radio, 4GB of internal memory, microSD card slot for memory expansion (up to 32GB), GPS with A-GPS support and Bluetooth 2.1 with A2DP support.

Huawei IDEOS X5 is expected to be available in Singapore, Hong Kong and New Zealand beginning January 2011, but the device will also be available through a carrier which will be announced in mid-2011, along with the pricing details.
