One of the most popular budget-friendly smartphones available in China, the Huawei Honor 3C, is about to receive a sequel. Although the recently leaked Honor 3C Play is a downgraded version of the former model, Huawei hopes to sell it like hot cakes in the Mainland.

As GSMDome points outs, despite the fact that Huawei has decided to focus more on premium smartphones, the company will still launch budget-friendly handsets from time to time.

Huawei Honor 3C Play is one of the mid-range Android smartphones that the Chinese company will launch this year, even though it has decided to concentrate its production on high-end smartphones.

Given that Huawei is mostly known for its low pricing, there’s no telling how customers will react when they will have to choose between a Huawei and Samsung smartphone.

Back on the Huawei Honor 3C Play, the smartphone seems like a slightly downgraded version of the popular Honor 3C that was launched in China in late 2013.

However, the former keeps some of the most important hardware included in the Honor 3C, so expect the Huawei Honor 3C Play to come equipped with the same 5-inch IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen display with HD (720p) resolution and the 1.3GHz quad-core MediaTek MT6582 processor inside.

The bad news is that the new smartphone packs only 1GB of RAM and 4GB internal memory. While this is not bad for the handset that’s been priced so low, it still makes a difference.

Speaking of which, Huawei Honor 3C Play will go on sale in China soon for only 599 yuan outright, which is about $72 or €54.

The smartphone is advertised as a direct competitor of Apple’s iPhone, which is understandable if we take into consideration that Apple has a strong presence on the Chinese smartphone market.

Obviously, the Honor 3C Play can’t be compared with any of the high-quality iPhones now available for purchase in China. Still, there are lots of customers who are more interested in cheap phones that would offer them some decent features and Huawei Honor 3C Play does seem to deliver on that promise.

Huawei Honor 3C packs an 8-megapixel photo snapper on the back, which features autofocus, LED flash and video recording, as well as secondary camera for video calls.

The bad news is that the smartphone will ship with Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean operating system out of the box, and the Chinese company did not say anything regarding a possible KitKat upgrade.
