Chinese handset maker Huawei made a surprising announcement a few days ago when it confirmed it would launch a new quad-core smartphone priced at under 400 USD (310 EUR).

Dubbed Huawei Honor 2, the smartphone leaked several days ago, along with few of its specs, but the mysterious device has been recently confirmed by the company’s CEO, Yu Chengdong.

According to Chengdong, Huawei Honor 2 will be released in China by the end of October for only 1899 yuan, which is about 305 USD or 235 EUR, outright.

The Honor 2 will probably be the most affordable quad-core smartphone available on the market.

Unfortunately, we don’t have any info confirming the Huawei Honor 2 will be launched outside the Mainland anytime soon.

All in all, the sequel to the popular Honor Android phone will ship with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean operating system out of the box.

In addition, the smartphone is said to be powered by a 1.4 GHz quad- core Hass K3V2 processor, which is built by Huawei.

The phone’s powerful CPU is complemented by 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal memory, but the manufacturer has yet to unveil Huawei Honor 2’s graphics processing unit.

The folks at Pocketdroid also report the smartphone features dual-SIM capability with dual-standby, which will make it more appealing on emerging markets such as China and India.

Furthermore, Huawei Honor 2 boasts a stunning 4.5-inch IPS HD capacitive touchscreen display that supports 720 x 1280 pixels resolution and 16 million colors.

Huawei’s upcoming Android flagship smartphone drains energy from a high-capacity 1900 mAh Li-Ion battery, which has yet to be rated by the manufacturer.

As expected, the smartphone will run Huawei’s Emotion 1.5 user interface, which is expected to be launched on a few Huawei smartphones that are already available on the market. Stay tuned for more updates on the matter.
