14 DAY TRIAL // Chinese handset maker Huawei has just announced the immediate availability of two Android smartphones in India, the Ascend G700 and Ascend G610.
Both handsets were introduced in China back in September, but Huawei seems to have decided to strengthen its presence on the Indian market by bringing more devices.
Both Huawei Ascend G700 and G610 are mid-range Android smartphones that will have a tough time competing with Indian OEMs, which are offering similar devices at much better prices.
Speaking of prices, Huawei Ascend G700 is now available for purchase in India for no less than Rs 17,999 outright, which is about $290 or €215.
As AndroidOS points out, the second smartphone launched by Huawei India, the Ascend G610 can be had for only Rs 12,999 ($210 / €155) off contract.
The good news is that both devices offer dual-SIM support, which is a mandatory feature in India and it becomes more important in China as well.
Specs-wise, the Ascend G700 is more powerful, as the smartphone comes equipped with a 1.2 GHz quad-core Mediatek MT6589 (Cortex-A7) processor, a PowerVR SGX544 graphics processing unit and 2GB of RAM.
It also packs 8GB of internal memory, microSD card slot (up to 32GB), 8-megapixel rear-facing camera with LED flash and full HD (1080p) video recording, as well as 5-inch IPS LCD display that supports HD (720p) resolution.
On the other hand, the Ascend G610 is equipped with the same 1.2 GHz quad-core processor, but packs only 1GB of RAM and 4GB of internal memory.
However, users can further expand storage up to 32GB via microSD memory card. On the back, the handset sports a 5-megapixel camera with autofocus, LED flash and HD (720p) video recording, while in the front, there’s a secondary VGA camera for video calls.
It is also worth mentioning that the Ascend G610 features a 5-inch IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen display, but it only supports 540 x 960 pixels resolution.
Software-wise, both Huawei Ascend mid-range smartphones ship with Android 4.2 Jelly Bean operating system out of the box, but there’s no word on Emotion UI.
