The NVIDIA Tegra 7 has been touted as one of the most capable 7-inch slates available on the market today and we thought so too.

The chip maker has been marketing the tablet as “the world’s fastest 7-inch tablet” as it enjoys features like a 72-core GeForce GPU and quad-core Cortex-A15 CPU.

With such a capable tablet on your hands, wouldn't it be nice if you could make it even better? A place to start would be unlocking the boot loader, so you can install custom ROMs on the device or run applications that require root permissions.

Anyway, before you get started, you should know unlocking the boot loader would void the warranty for your Tegra Note 7. If you understand the risks and wish to proceed, there are still a few steps you need to take before starting the operation per-se.

1. Charge the device up to 75% or more, to prevent you won’t be left high and dry in the middle of things; 2. Check to see if you have all the drivers needed; 3. Back-up before anything. Unlocking the boot loader will not only void your warranty, but it also completely erase all your files; 4. You’ll further need to download this file.

Now, moving on to the actual unlocking o the Tegra Note 7.

1. Enable USB Debugging from the device by going to Settings > Development and checking the USB debugging checkbox; 2. Connect the device to the PC. At this point, if some drivers need to be installed, let them do so; 3. Extract the file you downloaded on the desktop; 4. Right click on the Android folder and choose Open command prompt here; 5. Run the following commands in the command prompt window: - abd devices - abd reboot bootloader - fastboot eom unlock 6. Now you’ll be prompted on the device and you’ll have to select unlock; 7. Reboot device.

That’s it, you’re done, and the Note 7 bootloader should now be unlocked and ready for rooting goodness.

As a memory refresh, back when it was launched, the NVIDIA Tegra Note came with a 7-inch HD IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen display that supports 1280 x 800 pixel resolution.

The tablet is powered by a Tegra 4 mobile processor with quad-core Cortex-A15 CPU and 72-core GeForce graphics processing unit, as well as 1GB of RAM.

Since then, the tablet has received an update and LTE functionality has been added to the bundle as well. A new variant with NVIDIA’s new Tegra K1 processor will probably be launched on the market at some point, too.
