Those that got themselves a Droid Incredible smartphone and are into the filming thingy are probably disappointed by the fact that the camera software only saves the clips in 3gp format.

Even though the official specs list the device as being capable to shoot and save movies in the MP4 format, Droid Incredible is not doing this because of a probable bug, which hasn't been corrected yet.

Surely, you can use a converter to turn your 3gp clips into MP4 movies, but you will lose from the video's quality, as most converters are subject to data-loss.

Thanks to XDA member scuccia, Droid Incredible owners can now enjoy the quality of the MP4 format. Even though Droid Incredible shoots the clips in MP4 format initially, for unknown reasons it automatically converts them to 3gp clips, thus lowering the video quality.

To counter this annoying bug, XDA member scuccia came up with a small patch that will prevent the camera to change the extension of the movie, thus removing the whole 3gp converting process.

Since most of the media players are supporting the MP4 files, the patch might prove very useful for other devices that are not able to save video files in MP4 format, but are in fact capable to record in that format.

Unfortunately, for the moment the patch is only available for Droid Incredible, but it is highly recommended that you backup your original HTCCamera.apk before proceeding.

Don't expect more changes, as the patch seems to change the extension of the files only, as the videos are already being recorded in an MP4 stream.

This is helpful for people who need the extension to be MP4 for some specific reason, but also for a small increase in quality.

Nothing regarding the encoding process will be changed. Those that wish to try patching their camera software can find the file here. All credits go to XDA member scuccia.
