Over the past few years, the quick rate of adoption of HDMI has turned it into one of the most common audio/video connections available and this is the reason why more and more manufacturers are incorporating HDMI modules into their products. Unfortunately though, these interfaces can prove to be simply insufficient in certain situations, especially when the user owns several HD devices, but their HDTV only sports one HDMI interface.

Since these situations are increasingly commonplace, the people over at Belkin, a company specialized in the development of all sorts of connectivity solutions, have launched the HDMI 2-to-1 Video Switch, which will allow users to connect and easily toggle between two HDMI devices and watch full 1080p video on their HDTVs.

As expected from such a device, Belkin's switch supports all HD resolutions, namely 480i, 480p, 720i, 720p, 1080i, and 1080p. Furthermore, it is capable of maintaining the highest HDMI single-link video resolution and also works with HDCP-compliant devices.

Moreover, the device provides a high level of versatility, as it connects and switches between both HDMI and HDMI to DVI cables, and comes packed with a remote control that allows choosing the desired input from the included IR remote control. Furthermore, the switch doesn't require an external AC source, due to the fact that it is powered directly by the HDMI cable connection to the HDTV.

The HDMI 2-to-1 Video Switch from Belkin is currently available in stores around the US and Canada for around $49.99, which is not that bad a price for such an item, especially since most HDMI-related products are quite expensive. Furthermore, according to the company, it will also arrive in Europe, Asia, and Australia around March 2008, at some consistently higher price tags, no doubt.
