Subtle, yet fabulous makeup in golden colors

One of the rising stars of the new generation, as she’s often been called in the media, Blake Lively of “Gossip Girl” fame always causes quite a stir whenever she walks the red carpet. The last time to do so was the other night, when she arrived at the Ed Sullivan Theater for an appearance on The David Letterman Show. Dazzling in a pink mini-dress and with an impeccable ‘do, Blake also managed to draw attention to her subtle, yet fabulous makeup.

In order to recreate Blake’s look on Letterman, the first thing you must bear in mind is that this particular actress is only 21 years old, as FabSugar also points out. This means that she has youth on her side, which, in turn, means no wrinkles or unsightly spots.

However, a youthful countenance just like Blake’s can also be achieved with exfoliation and moisturizer. Once these two are out of the way, we should start by applying foundation, as the first step towards getting Blake’s look.

Make sure the foundation blends well, and then apply some concealer under the eyes, around the nose and to any spot there might be. Not only will the latter hide the dark circles under the eyes, but it will also make the skin more luminous, thus bringing them out better – which is exactly what you’re going for here, especially since the next step is all about playing with golden colors.

“For a subtle, yet polished eye, begin by sweeping a caramel-color shadow all over the lid as a base. Next, add a deeper bronzey-gold shadow […] to the crease and blend well. Then, use a champagne shadow […] to the inner v and blend just under the lower lashes. Line the tops of the eyes with a black liquid liner (careful not to make the line too thick) and line the inner rims on the bottom with a flesh coloured pencil (to brighten). Finish with two coats of black mascara and a few false lashes in the corner if you dare!” FabSugar says.

With the makeup for the eyes now done, concentrate on your cheeks. A touch of blusher is a must for a more natural look, so apply some to the apple of the cheeks and along the cheekbones. Choose a color that is delicate, yet warm enough to create the impression of natural. Also, you might want to consider the shade of lipstick as well when you’re looking for the perfect blusher for you, experts share.

Since we’re on the topic of lipstick, to get Blake’s look, you need a “deep rosey-pink” shade. Apply the lipstick with a brush for optimal results, then, once done, add a touch of lip gloss for moisture, but make sure you don’t overdo it with the gloss.

On a final note, remember that this type of makeup works best on fair-headed women, just like Blake.
