14 DAY TRIAL // Lots of you probably know that the guys over XDA-Developers already leaked an “official” Android 2.2 software update for AT&T's Samsung Captivate. This build seems very close to release and was dated September 21st, which means it's fresh.
The build version is I897UCJI6 and besides the Android 2.2 update, it also contains the GPS fix, as well as many other improvements, such as: Colored icons in settings, New keyboard, Android 2.2 search widget, Auto Rotation on notifications bar, New “Development USB” icon.
Other improvements include: Media Hub, Nook app, JIT Compiler, Better Exchange support, Android 2.2 Market improvements, Improved notifications bar icons, Pinch to zoom home screens, Adobe Flash Player 10.1 available in Market, Video records in .mp4 format.
Bear in mind that we are not responsible for broken devices or any data lost during the update. It is common fact that major software updates erase everything on your phone, so back up your data.
Fortunately, the update file is a one-click Odin file, so everything will be done automatically, as long as you put your Captivate into Download mode, by hold both volume keys with phone off and plug in USB.
You will be needing the Odin Flasher file, and optionally you can also get the Android SDK, for “adb”.
After you do a back up and save all your data from the phone insert the USB cable into your PC, but not into your smartphone yet.
Click on the .exe file that you have just downloaded on your computer (Odin flasher) and put your Samsung Captivate into “download mode”, by powering it off and holding down the volume keys and plugging the phone into your computer with the microUSB cable.
The .exe file that you just opened will recognize your phone, so click Start to begin the software update. Everything is done automatically from now on, so once it's done let it reboot.
