This might be something you will need to perform at some point

The first Android Wear devices have barely seen the light of day. The Samsung Gear Live is currently up for pre-order, but the first batches of the LG G Watch have already started shipping out to early adopters.

So given the fact that the watches are so new, you probably won’t need to perform a factory reset on the watch just yet. Nevertheless, you might never know when the need for a clean fresh start arises, so we want to show you how this is achieved.

In all possibility, you might get bored or uninspired by the smartwatch and want to sell it or give it another member of the family, but before you do this, you have to make sure the device is devoid of personal data.

The process is actually quite simple and if you fiddle with the device long enough, you’ll probably discover it for yourself. But we want to save you the time, in case the moment arises when you need to perform a factory reset on the clock.

Before we tell you how to go about things, note that the factory reset will only remove info off your smartwatch, were all the data will be wiped out. However, the smartphone counterpart will be unaffected. After the reset you’ll need to pair the smartphone (or another model for that matter) with the smartwatch, once again.

You’ll also need to bear in mind the watch needs to be plugged or charged before you proceed wiping out the existing data.

Follow these steps to perform a factory reset on an Android Wear device:

1) Wake up the device from sleep by tapping on the screen; 2) Tap anywhere on the background and a white screen showing a red G letter should pop up; 3) Tap anywhere on a screen, to bring out a menu; 4) Look for the Settings option and select it; 5) From here you should be able to stumble upon the “Reset device” option. Access it.

Anyway, since we’re talking about factory resets, it’s a good place to remind you that the first custom ROM for the LG G Watch has already been made available.

It is called Gohma (like the bosses in the Zelda series, who are usually depicted as a large, one-eyed arthropods) and promises to bring certain improvements to the table, including improved battery life, reduced lag between screens, improved overall performance, increased vibration intensity and a bunch of cool surprises.
