With the SCR-CD0001 CD/DVD shredder from Elecom

Most of us take quite good care of our CDs/DVDs, as it's quite a well known fact that they scratch and become unusable quite easily. However, there are certain situations when we need to render such an item completely unreadable, for various reasons (besides the one mentioned in the title), and that's why the Japanese from Elecom have come up with a portable device that does the job very rapidly and in a very elegant manner, namely the SCR-CD0001 CD/DVD shredder.

Well, first of all, I must mention that this thing is not exactly a "shredder", but more of a "scratcher", since the SCR-CD0001 makes your storage media unreadable by imprinting a very interesting and "artistic" pattern of scratches on the underside of your CD/DVD. Moreover, the device is quite portable and is powered via the USB port, so that you'll be able to employ its services of "professional scratching" even when on the go.

Here's a list of the most important features and specifications the SCR-CD0001 CD/DVD has to offer, according to what I've been able to understand from the otherwise poor translation of the Japanese product website:

- dimensions: 60 mm x 120 mm x 50 mm; - weight: 130 grams; - powered via USB (requires 500 mA to work); - rends a CD/DVD unusable in just 5 seconds; - continuous functioning time: 1 minute; - USB cable length: approximately 50 cm; - compatible discs: CD-R/RW, CD-ROM, DVD?R/RW, DVD-RAM and DVD-ROM;

The SCR-CD0001 CD/DVD "scratcher" from Elecom is available solely in Japan for the time being, for around 21 Euro, a relatively small price for a device that can get you out of some pretty unpleasant situations.

We are just a few, but there are many of you, Softpedia users, out there. That's why we thought it would be a good idea to create an email address for you to help us a little in finding gadgets we missed. Interesting links are bound to be posted with recognition going mainly to those who submit. The address is .
