Yahoo Messenger is the most popular instant messaging client on the Internet and it seems like it becomes even more than a simple software solution. Why am I saying that? Because a lot of users are proposing marriage through the instant messenger and prefer to do that instead of saying it in person. Speaking about the recently released Emoticontest rolled out by Yahoo Messenger and meant to find some new faces to be implemented into the instant messenger's offering, a Yahoo representative said the application is continuously increasing its popularity and consumers are tending to do more and more important stuff in this new virtual world.

"While we weren't surprised to learn that 82 percent of respondents are using emoticons in their everyday communication, we were surprised by how many users admitted they would propose marriage via IM rather than in person. Clearly, the emoticon has become an important form of communication," a Yahoo representative said for InternetNews.com.

According to the same source, most users of the instant messengers are attracted by the animated faces with 48 percent of the users with ages over 50 saying they are using them every day. In comparison with them, 68 percent of under 25 users are sending emoticons to other chatters everyday.

"We definitely agree that people love to use emoticons to express themselves in online conversations," Julie McCool, vice president of client safety & management at AOL, another company that powered a famous instant messaging application, said for InternetNews.com "Emoticons are so popular that at one point, over 90 percent of AOL IM users used emoticons."

At this time, there is an impressive number of instant messaging users and the amount of consumers is increasing because the applications are evolving and bundling new revolutionary features. Moreover, the VoIP features are also improved and are assuring the best communication experience.
