Winning a famous award is always satisfying, and even more so if your are a scientists who has just been recognized with a Nobel Prize. This short video shows how physicists Saul Perlmutter was honored by his university after if was announced that he won the 2011 Nobel Prize in Physics.

Perlmutter is a crucial member of the Supernova Cosmology Project, and holds joint appointments at the US Department of Energy's (DOE) Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (Berkeley Lab) and the University of California in Berkeley (UCB).

The work he conducted was critical in revealing that galaxies are now flying away from each other faster than they did billions of years ago, at an ever-accelerating pace. This phenomenon is called cosmic expansion.

Dark matter and dark energy exist as concepts solely because of studies conducted by Perlmutter and the other two winners of the famous award in physics, Brian P. Schmidt and Adam G. Riess.
