No more Google Reader starting today

Google Reader is always described as the best web-based RSS client because it works quite amazing although it is still a part of Google Labs. And until today, I really believed that Google Reader is a fantastic solution although every once is a while it returned me a tiny error. But today, it's the end. Today it's the big moment when I decided to switch from the famous solution powered by the Mountain View company to a downloadable RSS client that can store the feeds on my computer. Why, you'll ask. Because something unexpected happened today.

I have tons of feeds saved in my account and all of them are read daily from Google Reader. That's why the Google product is very important for me. Today, while I was browsing the feeds, a normal Google Reader error appeared: "Oops, there is an error, please try again later." Because I was quite used to it, I ignored the message and clicked on another feed. But wait, all my other saved feeds disappeared from the account without any notification. What should I do now Google?

While I was writing this article, I wanted to make a screenshot to show you how many feeds I have in my Google account. Look what Google Reader is telling me when I click on the "Trends" link: "It looks like you haven't used Reader yet, so there are not any trends to display. Try subscribing to a few feeds and reading a few items and then come back here to see fun charts."

What the heck?! I was quite a big fan of Google Reader but now I'm forced to look for an alternative solution because the one that I'm currently using is not safe anymore. In the past, the web-based RSS client encountered similar problems but they were always quickly fixed. This time, they will be probably repaired too but until then, I'm looking for a powerful downloadable RSS client. Any recommendations?
