14 DAY TRIAL // Well, it's official! George Clooney is off the market so you can write him off your possible conquest list. The man who said that he would never get married and that he loved the single life, has just taken the biggest step in his life and is now engaged to be married to British international law attorney Amal Alamuddin.
The news has become official despite Clooney's best efforts to keep it under wraps. It seems that while the actor and the lawyer planned on keeping it a secret for as long as they could, their plans were thwarted by her law firm which sent out an official congratulations message, and thus gave the entire world the news.
Now, the press is reaching out to Clooney's family to find out more about Amal, the only woman who's managed to tame this wild beast of a man and subdue him in the bond of matrimony. Clooney's father, Nick, said that “We are thrilled for them. We love Amal. We think they're a wonderful match and wish them well.”
Clooney's aunt, Starla, who is a non-denominational wedding minister in Ohio, hopes that she'll be invited to the wedding in an official state, namely that of minister, “If he asked me, I would do it,” she said, probably hoping that he reads her interview and gets the idea.
“I’m just as surprised as the rest of the world. George was going to be a bachelor his whole life,” the aunt added and theorized that “This woman must be exceptionally special to him for him to take the plunge. He hasn’t seen her very long. In the past there has at least been some sort of length of time.”
George seemed to never want to get married again after his failed experience with actress Talia Balsam that ended in 1993 after four years. Something happened to him during that time that turned him off marriage for good.
His aunt Starla explains, “I don’t know what split them up, but he said he wasn’t good at marriage. He was a struggling actor at the time, so maybe that contributed to it. He didn’t want to invest in it anymore.”
In essence, we don't know anything about Amal and apart from the fact that she must have put a spell on Clooney, there is really no logical explanation as to why he chose to finally get married. But we can speculate that Amal is very different from all the women he's been involved with up until now.
Whereas Clooney was only used to dating people in the entertainment industry, such as models or actresses, Amal is from a whole different world. She's an international lawyer, a very successful one at that, she's into politics and humanitarian affairs, both of which are big pursuits for the actor.
