The ladies may love certain items but gents think they’re just stupid

A while back, we were telling you about trends that celebrities have helped start and that regular women have picked up and made mainstream – and that men hated. Now, it’s time to have another, closer look, this time at clothing items. They’re hot, celebs love them, they bespeak a budding fashionista and originality, and chances are they’re pretty expensive as well. Most importantly, as the Daily Mail puts it, men hate them.

MSN conducted a poll among men as to how certain fashion trends fared with them in terms of being turn-ons or, on the contrary, turn-offs. Surprisingly, some of the most popular items with the ladies also ranked lowest in men’s preferences, including harem pants, oversized sunglasses, Ugg boots, jumpsuits, leggings and gladiator sandals. As anyone with the slightest idea about what’s hot today can notice, these are actually the trendiest items out there right now.

“Now that the jumpsuit playsuit or romper has become ubiquitous, women spend even longer in the bathroom wrestling with these wretched garments,” the Mail writes of the all-too popular jumpsuit. “They make us look shapeless and worryingly Andy Pandy-like. As one man said: ‘They’re the ultimate in women-dressing-for-other-women. Confusing and overly clever. At best you look like a toddler, at worst like my mum in the Seventies’,” the same publication goes on to say.

Harem pants are not a good idea either, for they create the impression of a child who’s just filled her diaper. They’re shapeless and very confusing, which is why men don’t like them. At the opposite pole, there are the leggings, which take out all the mystery by being so shape-fitting. Moreover, because some women wear them regardless of their body shape and how toned they are, leggings are on many men’s list of major turn-offs. Uggs are equally not hot, as also are gladiator sandals: the former because they’re shapeless, smelly and un-intriguing; the latter because they take forever to put on and take off, and leave one looking shorter than she actually is.

Tuxedoes are also a major no-no with guys, the same report further reads. “We women think we look great in a tux, but the scene in the new SATC movie, when Carrie wears one for a wedding, shows us that very often we do not: she wanted to look like Bianca Jagger, but ended up like Mick: desiccated and ridiculous. Men are simple creatures: they like to see our legs, arms and maybe a bit of décolletage. What they don’t want is braces and shirt studs,” writes the Mail.
