For the Vietnamese side

Yahoo is currently in a hurry, because the Sunnyvale company is working on several products for the Vietnamese market that will help the portal attract a new segment of users. It seems that Yahoo wants to roll out some utilities for Yahoo Messenger that will allow the local members to communicate in their mother tongue. According to VietNamNet, Yahoo is also working on a stand-alone service that appears to be a social network product, but there is no official statement yet.

"Apart from Plugin supporting chat in Vietnamese on Yahoo Messenger and a specialised avatar for the community of Vietnamese Yahoo Messengers, Yahoo will provide a new online service in the Vietnamese language. Though the name of this product has not been disclosed yet, a Vietnamese expert of Yahoo Asia Pacific said that it would be a social network product," the source reported.

At this time, there is no obvious sign showing that Yahoo prepares a new product, except for the recent beta testing session that invites interested users to test a new product. According to VietNamNet, the beta will debut on June 19 and will include all the users registered for it.

As far I can see, this looks like another Yahoo attempt to expand its solutions into the Chinese market after the Sunnyvale company encountered several problems in the past. As you might know, the two Internet giants Google and Yahoo tried to conquer the Asian market but every time, their attempts were rejected straight from the beginning. Yahoo was the most affected because it suffered numerous departures, losing even its Chinese president that left the firm for its own company. Moreover, Yahoo was forced to announce an internal reorganization meant to revamp the firm and create hot projects for the future of the giant portal.
