Avicii was forced to cancel a series of appearances in Miami yesterday as he was taken to the emergency room with severe abdominal pains and fever. It was later revealed that he had suffered from a blocked gall bladder and this means doctors will have to remove it in a surgical procedure.

“He has been diagnosed as having a blocked gall bladder,” confirmed his publicist yesterday as there was still wide speculation to the cause of his cancellation. “[He] is currently being evaluated for a potential surgery to remove his gall bladder. ... He has had to cancel all his commitments for the week,” continued the publicist.

“[This includes] a highly anticipated performance last night at the Ushuaia Pop Up at the Avicii Hotel at SLS and his headline performance  tomorrow at the ULTRA Music Festival,” concludes the statement as quoted by Billboard.

ULTRA have since taken to announce that they have already found a replacement for the DJ, in the form of electronic act Deadmau5. Meanwhile, earlier today, Avicii announced on his Facebook page that he will indeed undergo gall bladder surgery.

In the post, the artists apologizes to fans “My fans know that I have had issues in the past with my stomach and pancreatitis…I woke up on Wednesday morning with serious pain but I flew to Miami anyway, hoping that it would go away. The pain was still there when I landed so I went straight to hospital. I was treated and left later that night. Unfortunately, the pain came back yesterday afternoon and I returned to the hospital where they admitted me to stay overnight.”

The Swedish DJ, real name Tim Bergling, is responsible for one of the biggest hits of 2013, that is still going strong in 2014, “Wake Me Up,” with vocals from Aloe Blacc and Mike Einziger. He was supposed to be the second of five performers in a five-night set at the Miami hotel in Thursday, but missed it when he was taken to hospital.

His manager, Ash Pounnouri, gave some insider information into his state of health and his regret at missing his scheduled acts “He was really disappointed that he wasn't able to come to the AVICII Hotel at SLS and perform for all his fans. He really appreciated all the hard work done by SLS, Ushuaia, At Night and SBE in creating the space.  It was frustrating for him not to have seen it.  And of course, ULTRA has been so important to us for so many years, it's a big letdown not being able to play.”

All we can say is get well soon!
