Mark Hoppus announces plans for solo album

Fans of the quirky Blink-182, or the other band that came after it and that included only Hoppus and Travis Barker, +44, would better not put their hopes in a reunion happening too soon, MTV reveals. After an interview with Mark Hoppus, it is now clear that it’s best if we prepare for a solo album than hold our breath for a comeback.

Although neither Hoppus nor the other two band members ever put rumors of a Blink-182 reunion to rest, nothing official was ever made public. With this in mind, this is actually the closest thing to something official, as the rocker has announced that he’s been working on a solo album, which will certainly not leave any room for band-work.

“Since late August of last year, I’ve been in the studio every week writing songs with the intention of putting out a record of my own. As of this week, I’ve got about 10 songs in various stages of completion and another 10 ideas that I still want to work on. By the way, this interview will be the first time many people at the label are going to hear about the possibility of me doing an album on my own. Hi, Interscope!” Hoppus tells MTV.

Also, just in case fans are wondering how +44 bandmate Travis feels about this, they should probably not fret too much, Hoppus says. “Travis has played on a bunch of [my] tracks, and he’s working on his own album as well. We totally support each other in whatever we're doing. He’s like a brother to me. I see him in our studio every week.” the rocker explains.

The collaboration between the two is stronger than ever, now that they’re working each on his own stuff, it would seem. This is also how Hoppus would explain why people thought that, when he said “No matter what I work on, Travis will be a part of it” a while back, he meant they would never part ways. “He’s played on a bunch of [my songs], and he’s asked if I’ll play on some of his songs. We collaborate and give each other ideas and support.” Hoppus adds.
