Hop-on is not a name of that much resonance in the mobile world, and this is because it doesn't deliver the kind of high-end or even mid-end phones you would expect. No, quite the opposite of that. The company manufactures disposable phones and, at the Major League Baseball World Series, it will present its new model, the HOP1800, that costs only 10.00 USD.

President and CEO of Hop-on, Peter Michaels, said about the new device that, "Our goal at these events is to gain further exposure so that our phone simply becomes an effective method of marketing and business for Hop-on and our corporate partners. For the consumer it is a disposable, low-cost phone that simply makes and receives calls. We have received an overwhelming amount of interest since the introduction of this phone earlier this summer. Our phone has literally sold itself. The HOP1800 has clear sound, technology components including a flashlight, and a design comparable to any mid-tier cell phone on the market for a fraction of the cost."

HOP1800 is part of Hop-on's 1800 series, which also includes three more models. The series includes the HOP1801 Smart Phone, which is presented as the lowest cost smartphone on the market. The HOP1803 is a low price GSM Tri-Band phone, while the HOP1805 is touted as a low price cell phone for emerging markets.

Back to the HOP1800, the device is designed as a simple GSM dual band phone that has no display, but has a Braille keypad and built-in flashlight. As out of the ordinary as it may sound, a Braille keypad and a flashlight in a phone practically scream that the company behind it is thinking of everybody.

Hop-on seems to believe that disposable phones are an unexplored market, and it just might be right. After all, no one will be upset if they lose or destroy by accident a ten dollar phone. Plus, who would want to steal one? Thanks to being so low cost, the devices produced by Hop-on might be also really useful for parents who consider getting for their kids a simple and, at the same time, a practical phone to stay in touch.
