14 DAY TRIAL // Good news for space strategy games fans, as one of the most beloved franchises of the genre, Homeworld will be remastered and made available on Steam next month.
Gearbox has just announced that Homeworld Remastered Collection will be available on Steam beginning February 25. Those interested can now pre-order the game for only €27.19 (15% discount), which isn't a high price considering that the collection contains 4 titles.
In fact, you get Homeworld Remastered Edition and Homeworld 2 Remastered Edition, and as a bonus those who purchase it will also receive free access to Homeworld Classic, Homeworld 2 Classic and Homeworld Remastered Steam Multiplayer Beta.
As with all Remastered edition games, this version of Homeworld will feature updated high-resolution textures and models, new graphical effects and support for HD, UHD and 4K resolution.
In addition, Gearbox confirmed Homeworld Remastered Collection will come with new audio mix using original source effects and music, as well as cinematic scenes recreated in beautiful high fidelity by original artists. Mod support and mod tools will be available as well.
It will offer free access to Homeworld and Homeworld 2 classics
The multiplayer aspect will allow games to play Homeworld races against Homeworld 2 races with up to 8 players on 23 maps, as well as new game modes.
Although Homeworld and Homeworld 2 were a nightmare for PC gamers when they were released due to their high requirements, the remastered edition's recommended requirements aren't that high now: 2.3GHz quad-core CPU, 4GB RAM, Nvidia GeForce GTX560 / ATI Radeon HD 5850 (1GB VRAM), 20 GB available space.
The epic strategy game that redefined the real-time strategy at the time of its launch will also feature Steam Workshop support, Steam Cloud and Steam Achievements.
On a side note, if you decide to pre-order the game, then you should know you won't be able to play the classic version of Homeworld and Homeworld 2 before the entire Remastered Collection gets released on February 25.
