The development team at Gearbox is ready to officially reveal the coming Homeworld Remastered Collection game package, which will allow players to get access to all the titles launched in the classic space-based real-time strategy title.

At the moment, no launch date has been offered but the studio says that it will open pre-orders soon for long-time fans who want to make sure that they have the new versions of the titles.

The official site also allows all those interested to vote on the kind of content that will be featured in a Special Collector’s Edition for Homeworld Remastered Collection, which will include both physical and in-game elements.

Gearbox states that “Previously, we’d been referring to this effort as Homeworld HD but as work progressed it became clear that title didn’t properly communicate the scope of the work.”

The company adds, “This is more than a simple re-release or up-res — given the input we’ve received from fans, mod makers and series veterans, the result is full-fledged remastering of nearly all aspects alongside the archival Classic versions.”

The Homeworld Remastered Collection is designed to include high-resolution textures and models for all units in the game, more graphics effects that will make battles more exciting, and support for both high-definition and 4K resolutions.

The original audio of the titles and the cutscenes were remade by some of the developers who worked on the games, and the two multiplayer modes have been combined into one new experience.

Gamers will also be able to use the included classic versions of Homeworld, which have been updated to work with all modern operating systems.

Homeworld was first launched in 1999 and was created by the team at Relic.

Gearbox has previously said that its leadership is huge fans of the franchise and that it is committed to making sure that its legacy is not lost for present-day players.

At the same time, sales of the Homeworld Remastered Collection will be used to gauge overall interest in a new title in the series and Gearbox hopes that the dedicated fan base of the series will react enthusiastically.

Work on Homeworld 3 might start as soon as late in 2014 as long as Gearbox determines that it has the resources to create a solid space-based strategy experience that blends classic ideas with modern mechanics.

Gearbox will probably make an official announcement later in the summer.
