Homeowners from Huber Heights, near Dayton in Ohio have found a monster alligator in their basement.

The beast weighs about 150 pounds (68 kg) and it is seven feet (2.1 m) long. The reptile will be taken to an animal sanctuary in Florida, but it has been transported to Columbus for the moment.

President of the Humane Society of Greater Dayton, Brian Weltge tells WDTN that this giant gator was probably someone's pet.

The owner is nowhere to be found, but he could be charged with animal abuse if authorities do track him down. The animal was hurt and its teeth were loose, a Dayton veterinary doctor explained.

"Teeth that are loose which that is very abnormal and you can see some injury. [..] A lot of wear and tear, Dr. Daniel Brauer describes.

Unfortunately, this type of animal abuse is not that uncommon in the area, and the Humane Society is urging residents not to keep exotic animals as pets.
