After a major leak earlier today, Homefront: The Revolution has been made official by Crytek and Deep Silver, which have confirmed that the new first-person shooter will launch in 2015 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One, while offering details, screenshots, and a video with it.

Homefront appeared back in 2011 from Kaos Studios and THQ, and the publisher pinned high hopes on the shooter by investing a lot in its development and marketing.

Unfortunately, due to a short story and linear missions, the game's sales flopped and contributed to the financial problems of THQ, which quickly partnered with Crytek to develop a sequel, while shutting down Kaos.

After THQ's bankruptcy, Crytek quickly acquired the whole rights to Homefront and confirmed that work on the sequel was going smoothly at its UK branch.

Now, the new title has been officially revealed, in the form of Homefront: the Revolution.

In terms of story, the game takes place after the original Homefront and focuses on Philadelphia and the area surrounding the famous U.S. city. While the center is occupied by North Korean forces, the outskirts are known as the badlands and here the seeds of the revolution are being planted by a rag tag group of guerrilla fighters, of which the player is a part.

The game has an open world and is filled with settlements, groups of survivors, and other factions that will react to player choices and decisions. Unscripted battles and makeshift weapons are a big part of The Revolution, so expect to have an impact on the story.

"Homefront: The Revolution stands out from the crowd by immersing players in a world where they’ll feel emotionally compelled to fight for their freedom, Hasit Zala, game director at Crytek, said about the new title.

"We’re very excited to work with Deep Silver and deliver an experience that underlines Crytek’s commitment to quality whilst tapping into the huge potential we saw when we first acquired the Homefront IP."

The new title is powered by Crytek's special CryEngine and sees players recruit revolutionaries, establish bases and safehouses, and build special weapons in the open world.

The story can also be explored cooperatively with friends online, as you form a Resistance cell and earn reputation as heroes of the revolution, according to Crytek.

A set of screenshots and a video with Homefront: The Revolution have also been shared by Crytek. The title will debut for PC, PS4, and Xbox One in 2015.
