Video game developer Crytek says that it has chosen to launch Homefront: The Revolution only on next-gen consoles because it wants to make sure that gamers get a high quality experience, which would have been difficult to guarantee on current-gen devices.

Fasahat Salim, one of the main designers working on the project, is quoted by TotalXbox as saying that his team is always aiming to create the best game experience possible.

He explains, "the amount of stuff going on in this game, the scale at which it’s happening with all of the different systems running behind the scenes, all of these things, and to get a steady 30 frames per second as well… it would have been possible on previous consoles but the thing is it would’ve meant a lot more work and a lot more difficulty."

Working on the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3 would also have meant that the resources available at Crytek would have been stretched thin, which would have resulted in a longer development process.

The company says that it has learned a lot by creating Crysis 2 on home consoles and that it is now ready to fully exploit their potential.

Salim adds, "Now with the new consoles we’ve reached a level where our CryEngine is capable of easily translating whatever we’ve built onto all of the platforms that it’s ready for and to get the best out of each of them."

Homefront: The Revolution is created using the CryEngine, which means that it will deliver high quality visuals and a smooth frame rate.

The team is also using an open world structure, which will place an even bigger burden on the tech.

Homefront: The Revolution is a direct sequel to the first title in the series, which envisions a future where the United States is attacked and occupied by forces from North Korea.

Gamers will take on the role of insurgents who need to use classic guerrilla tactics in order to take out enemy forces and reclaim their cities to start a larger uprising against the occupiers.

Crytek promises that the title will force players to use real-world tactics, while delivering kinetic and dynamic larger battles that will push the story forward from time to time.

Homefront: The Revolution is set to be offered at some point in 2015 on the PC, the PlayStation 4 and the Xbox One.
