Or at least that's what Vinton Cerf suggests

Although the BitTorrent network has been heavily attacked in the last months, the victims being websites that offered trackers, it seems that Hollywood is going through an attitude change regarding this method of quick information transmission. According to the statements made by Dr. Vinton Cerf, one of the creators of the Internet, the Hollywood movie studios can hardly wait the association with BitTorrent for movie distribution.

Cerf is the developer of the TCP/IP protocol and is currently chairman of the ICAAN (Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers). Recently, during a conference, he stated that at least two major movie studios from Hollywood are interested to establish a partnership with the BitTorrent compatible peer to peer transfer solutions.

Vinton Cerf says the classic entertainment industry hasn't discover yet all the distribution channels the Internet can offer, and if all online distribution channels were available to the big entertainment producers, the sales would record significant leaps.

The ICAAN president has outlined many times that these producers have a misconception about the qualities of the Internet, and especially about its possibility to supply real-time video content. Although users have already accustomed to the idea of video clips or short movies streaming (viewing the video material together with its download), the movie producers could settle only with the transmission of video materials through separate packages similar to BitTorrent. Regarding the distribution of short movies, clinging to the Internet's real-time functions is not favoring anyone, the stability and quality of the transmission being much more important.
