SkyZone and FremantleMedia have recently announced the release of Hole in the Wall game for iOS, BREW and J2ME mobile platforms. According to the developers, an Android version will soon follow.

The “Hole in the Wall” application is based on the popular Japanese game show, in which two teams compete by attempting to force themselves through weird shaped holes in a giant moving wall made from extruded polystyrene foam. Players who fail to do so are usually pushed into a pool of water below.

“SkyZone has never shied away from releasing mobile content based on successful entertainment properties, whether it be Animal House, The Three Stooges and now Hole In The Wall,” said Key N. Sar, Chief Marketing Officer and Business Development, SkyZone Entertainment.

“With this game, we were able to distill the most important aspects of the show - teamwork, competition, joy, fun and tears - into a portable format where players could experience the absurdity at their fingertips,” added Sar.

The mobile version of the game gives players the opportunity to be part of this funny game by manipulating the avatar's body with the help of onscreen controls.

Just like in the real game show players must fit their avatars through increasingly difficult holes to win points.

The avatars can be upgraded with in-game items such as boots, helmets, suit upgrades, by successfully going through the game's levels. The game features both single player and turn-based multiplayer modes.

As a side note, the iPhone version will include specific features such as multi-touch and iTunes support, wall posting of scores, high sound quality and visual effects that take advantage of the iPhone's graphic capabilities.

“Hole in the Wall is one of the most exciting and innovative game show formats currently on television,” added Nicholas Dale, Manager of Interactive for program licensor FME.

“We are excited to work with a talented partner like SkyZone to bring the unique gameplay of the show to its fans through mobile devices,” continued Dale.

Hole in the Wall” costs between $1.99 and $6.99 on various mobile platforms.
