The FBI have started digging up a field in Michigan in a bid to unearth the remains of Jimmy Hoffa, CBS Detroit reports.

Hoffa's burial spot is one of Detroit's best kept mysteries, and cops have been trying to crack this one for decades.

This time, the tip on his burial location comes from former underboss Tony Zerilli. In January, 85-year-old Zerilli, an ex-Teamster boss from New Jersey told the FBI about how Hoffa died.

Zerilli will also be publishing a book on his death and the whereabouts of his body, were it recovered in the Northern Oakland Township field.

"You have to follow this lead because it's probably the most credible lead that the FBI's ever gotten ... on this case," comments author Scott Bernstein, who researches the local mafia's dealings.
