Producing not directing

The brilliant guy behind The Fifth Element, The Big Blue and The Professional, Luc Besson is at it again, but this time we are talking about a gaming related movie. No, it is not Arthur and the Invisibles, which is coming to theaters soon, but a film based on the Hitman series of video games.

Talking to VH1's Harold Goldberg, Luc Besson admits he has no knowledge whatsoever about games, but I think if someone is able to make a good Hitman movie, Luc Besson is definitely the guy. He confesses he doesn't know anything about video games and that he doesn't even have a computer or an email account.

We will forgive him, because he is Luc Besson and because he is extremely funny: "Besson has signed up to produce (not direct) "Hitman," the Eidos franchise featuring the brooding baldie, Agent 47 which is supposed to be shot this year. Explains Besson, "My friends at Fox, they have the rights and they asked me to help them. I don't know that much about the game yet." What does he make of Agent 47? He thought for a moment. "I like his tie," joked Besson. Hey, better a creative mind like that of Besson going in knowing little about the game than a so-called game aficionado like Uwe Boll making it a total piece of drivel. And that's no lie."

As far as the main character is concerned, no word is out yet, but since Besson also produced the Transporter flicks, Statham would be a shoe-in. Or if Bruce Willies could get back to his Fifth Element form (which is not going to happen in the near future), he would be nice as well.
