14 DAY TRIAL // Hitachi Global Storage Technologies, one of the world's leading vendors of high-performance hard-disk drives, has announced today the expansion of its line of Ultrastar hard drives for enterprise storage applications. The company has just introduced two new 15,000RPM Ultrastar hard drives for Tier 0/1, mission-critical, enterprise storage applications, including the C15K147, a 2.5-inch hard drive for the enterprise market and the new Ultrastart 15K600, designed to deliver an impressive 600GB of storage space and a choice for a 6Gb/s SAS or 4Gb/s Fibre Channel Arbitrated Loop (FCAL) interface.

According to Hitachi, the new 15K147 2.5-inch hard drive has been designed to deliver more than 70 percent more efficiency when compared to standard 3.5-inch hard drives. These new models are available in capacities of 73GB and 147GB, also featuring a 64MB cache buffer, they boast a 15,000RPM rotational speed and are featured with Hitachi's own Advanced Power Management technology.
In addition to that, Hitachi has designed its drives to meet the Trusted Computing Group’s Enterprise A Security Subsystem Class specification, enabling a better protection of the user's data. According to Hitachi, the Ultrastart C15K147 and the 15K600 are already shipping into the channel and are accompanied by a five-year warranty.
