Although Hitachi has had some problems lately, at least with its consumer desktop computing systems' branch, the company's other departments seem to be doing quite well, as the Japanese company has just announced the release of a new line of ultra-thin LCD displays, dubbed the UT line, whose models are just around 35 mm thin.

According to the company, the new UT series is designed to free customers from restrictions regarding the possible placement of the TV. And this is because the display of UT series, which is 35 mm thin, is more than just a TV suitable to be hung on a wall, since, by separating the media station from the monitor, the UT series provides consumers with a range of options for placement throughout the home, as well as ease in connecting with other consumer electronic equipments.

Thus, the TV and media station can be connected via the optional wireless unit to bring even more range in placement. The back of the monitor is well proportioned so that it can be viewed from any angle. Furthermore, the 32-inch size comes in four color variants - black, white, red (limited production) and blue (limited production). The media station has been equipped with Hitachi's proprietary "iV Pocket," which can record high definition broadcasting on an optional removable hard disc drive "iVDR 3-S".

The new UT series includes several models, namely a 32-inch LCD TV, a 37-inch model and a 42-inch variant, providing 1366x768 and 1920x1080 resolutions respectively. Unfortunately, all we know for now is that the 32-inch version will arrive in mid-December, while the other two versions will arrive in February and April, respectively, the pricing remaining the most important but unknown, as it will probably be decisive for the success (or failure) of this new line.
