The USB, PSU Alliance

The power supply units( PSU for short) manufacturer Hiper released a range of PSUs that have four USB ports in the back of the unit. For those users that have few or no external USB ports this may come as a blessing, but the entire power supply unit, named Type R II, is rated at an impressive 770W of output power.

As an addition to the novelty of including USB ports on a PSU, the producing company installed a portable device charger port that may come in handy for those users that like mobile devices as mp3 players and the like. One drawback of the back mounted USB ports is that the hot air blown by the cooling fan from inside the PSU will go right over the connected devices.

The four USB ports connect to the motherboard, so the power supply unit acts as a hub facing backwards, while the mobile device charger, itself equipped with a USB connector, can charge up a device even when the computer is turned off. Because of its high power output, the Type R II PSU is perfect for handling dual graphics cards machines and it is fully certified for Nvidia SLI and Quad SLI use. In order to make the most of the SLI setup, the Hiper's Type R II PSU includes an exTender connection system and gold plated connectors as well as four independent 12V rails.

According to the product's page on the Hiper site, this power supply unit is compliant with the latest ATX12V v2.2 and EPS12V v2.91 form factors, being designed for systems centered around AMD 64 or Intel LGA processors. The low operational noise (20db under normal conditions) and the active power factor correction (PFC for short), along with PCI-E, SATA, MOLEX with EZ-Grip, floppy and P8 and P4 connectors make the Hiper Type R II a valuable addition to a computer system.
