The former model turned successful singer turned First Lady of France Carla Bruni is now going through what the media describes as agonizing moments, as older, personal photos and videos of herself have been stolen from a Paris apartment. Although the police cannot confirm anything at this point, it is believed the pictures and the videos will go on auction or will be posted on the Internet to embarrass Nicolas Sarkozy, Fox News reports.

Everything that was stolen dated back from when Bruni was dating Raphael Enthoven, who is also the father of her eight-year-old son. Enthoven had entrusted his brother with the personal, “highly intimate” materials, specifically to prevent a situation like this from occurring, that is, to not have them fall in the wrong hands. It was the apartment of Enthoven’s brother that was broken into a couple of days ago, on Sunday night, as Bruni and Sarkozy were visiting Spain on an official visit, and, ironically enough, nothing else besides the photos and the videos was taken.

This has prompted authorities to conclude that the thieves knew exactly what they were looking for, which can only mean that the two possibilities for the pictures to surface mentioned above are considered highly likely at this point, Fox points out. “They broke into Mr. Enthoven’s flat in Rue Dauphine, in the sixth arrondissement, on Sunday night, smashing a window in the sitting room which looks out on to the courtyard. The thieves appeared to know exactly what they were looking for. They took highly intimate prints, a camera full of further images, videos, and numerous computer files. Nobody was at home at the time, and nothing else was taken.” a detective working on the case says for the aforementioned media outlet.

Despite the fact that this is not the first time something like this happens since Bruni married Sarkozy, and although he is well aware of his wife’s past, this recent incident could have disastrous consequences, several other media outlets are pointing out. Whether the thieves decide to sell the photos and videos to the highest bidder or to post them on the Internet for free – granted they’re not apprehended in the meantime – their nature might tarnish Bruni and Sarkozy’s reputation for good, it has been said. Nevertheless, police have not yet made any statement as regards the exact nature of the material, being labeled only as “intimate” and “personal.”

“Police now fear whoever has the pictures could take advantage of Bruni’s status as an international symbol by selling the pictures for hundreds of thousands of dollars. Otherwise they could be posted on the web to cause maximum embarrassment to Sarkozy, who is only too well aware of his third wife’s colorful past, which has included affairs with British rockers Eric Clapton and Mick Jagger.” Fox News says.

Police are still investigating but, so far, they seem to have no solid lead in the case. For more on this, keep an eye on this space.
