Sony Ericsson designated September 18, 2008 as the official launch date for its highly expected and mediated Xperia X1, at Tent London, as part of the Design Week. This multimedia mobile phone is innovative and stylish, and because of its looks and feel, ideally suited for businessmen.

What makes this phone so special? Well, first of all, it has a high resolution (800 x 480 pixels), 3'' clear wide display that allows lots of information to be viewed, and it also features an OLED optical touch screen for easy interfacing with the device. One of the best features is the fact that the phone is actually an arc-slider, and this means that the quantity of information you see on display is superior to that of a normal slide phone, and you also get a full QWERTY keyboard, so you can easily type anything at a fast rate.

One of the glam features of the phone is the metal-finish body, which makes it even more appealing. The device not only has the looks, it also has the “brain,” meaning the software. It uses Windows Mobile 6.1, but SE also said that Xperia was not bound to it, so future versions might support other mobile platforms. Anyway, SE took care of the interface, making it easy to use with its nine square icons, which are actually nine miniature high resolution screen captures of the application in the launcher. Users will be able to customize each and every one of them according to their needs. Pretty handy, right?

Okay, now let's go to the weird part of the device: Xperia X1 apparently has a mandatory fish panel displaying three fishes, each and every one of them representing a different thing (battery status, volume) - for a really cool and slick business phone, this comes as a bit unnatural. But with so many hardcore business-related parts, you kind of expect it to have at least some fun-related ones.

The official announcement doesn't include any info regarding the price of X1, but rumors, as well as some online sellers, set its value at about USD 1,000$.
