An Ohio high school senior did a very kind gesture for his great-grandmother – he took her to his school's prom because the elderly woman never had a chance to go to hers.

Austin Dennison, a student at Parkway High School in Rockford, Ohio, asked his 89-year-old great-grandmother Delores Dennison to be his date at his senior prom, and she accepted, so the two of them caught everyone's attention at the event on April 26 as they were the most unusual and cutest couple in the room.

“I asked Grandma if she would be my date to the prom and she said that she would be honored. I told her that it would be my privilege,” he said. “How cool would it be to take my great-grandmother to prom?”

According to Fox News, the 19-year-old boy, who is an Eagle Scout, athlete and faithful churchgoer, says the invitation was inspired by Austin’s economics teacher, Lucas Minnich, whose older brother had also taken his grandma to the prom.

The ball night was full of emotion and pleasant surprises for Granny DD, as Austin call his grandma Dolores. The teenager kicked off the event by serenading his great-grandma with “Iris” by the Goo Goo Dolls. Afterwards, he invited her to a pre-dance dinner at a Bob Evans Restaurant and took her on a pleasant promenade. But the sweetest moment of the evening was a slow-paced dance to Frank Sinatra's “Dolores,” a song Delores's late husband used to sing to her.

The grandmother said the proposal took her by surprise, and she had a little trouble finding a suitable dress for the special occasion because the modern dresses were either “too high or too low.” She eventually picked a pretty blue dress, a clutch purse, and a pearl necklace which was a gift from her grandson.

“It was wonderful and I just loved all the girls in their fancy gowns and the gentlemen in their tuxedos. It was quite a night. Everyone there just could not have been more polite. Everyone got an A+,” Dolores said after the magical night.

The teenager has great respect for his great-grandma and says he enjoys every moment he can spend with her.

“I respect my elders greatly. They have a great influence on my life. I’ve been blessed with grandparents and great grandparents that know as much as they do. They have so many stories to tell. All I have to do is ask,” young Dennison said.

Following high school graduation, he plans to attend Florida Gulf Coast University in Fort Myers and take a pre-med course.
