A study recently published in the Journal of the National Cancer Institute says that breast cancer patients who eat dairy products on a fairly regular basis should worry about their survival chances being reduced by as much as 49%.

As well as this, the study maintains that breast cancer patients who indulge in one or more servings of such foods on a daily basis have a greater risk of passing away because of other causes.

In order to establish this link between high-fat dairy products and an increased risk of dying of breast cancer, the researchers took to monitoring a total of 1,500 women suffering with this medical condition over the course of 12 years.

For the most part, the women were questioned with respect to their diet (i.e. how often they ate dairy products and how much fat these contained).

Needless to say, their medical records were also kept a close eye on.

At the end of said time frame, the scientists pieced together the data they gathered while conducting their investigations and discovered that 349 of the women taken into consideration for this study ended up experiencing a recurrence of breast cancer.

Furthermore, 372 of them passed away, and 189 of these deaths were linked to breast cancer alone, sources report.

“Women consuming larger amounts of high-fat dairy had higher breast cancer mortality as well as higher all-cause mortality and higher non-breast cancer mortality.”

“Specifically, women consuming one or more servings per day of high-fat dairy had a 64% higher risk of dying from any cause and a 49% increased risk of dying from their breast cancer during the follow-up period,” lead researcher Candyce Kroenke reportedly commented with respect to the findings of this investigation.

The researchers speculate that high-fay dairy products negatively impact on the overall wellbeing and life expectancy of breast cancer patients because of their containing cow oestrogen.
