A new report coming to us from the Taiwanese media claims HTC is going to be making a comeback to the tablet market in 2014, with a steamy hot high-end Nexus tablet.

Back in 2013, rumor had it that HTC was going to abandon the tablet game altogether, because it’s no secret that the company hasn't been really successful in the field.

A few months later after the rumors surfaced, HTC officials stepped forward and dismissed the information saying they might be unleashing a tablet they called “disruptive” quite soon.

Now FocusTaiwan brings news that the struggling smartphone company is set to partner up with Google in order to deliver a new Nexus tablet (which is going to be a high-end model, this time around).

Apparently, the premium tablet will start shipping somewhere in the third quarter of 2014. Asked to comment upon the information, HTC declined to make any claims about the possibility of spawning a Nexus slate.

HTC and Google aren't strangers, as the Taiwanese manufacturer produced the first ever Nexus smartphone.

However, tablet-wise Google has maintained a steady partnership with ASUS for the production of the first- and second-gen Nexus 7 tablets. By contrast, the Nexus 10 has been a joint venture between Google and Samsung.

Judging by the “high-end” tag, could HTC be brought on board to produce the Nexus 12 (check out this awesome render of the tablet)?

Nonetheless, how does this rumor reconcile with the previous speculation which seems to indicate Google is ready to drop the Nexus line in favor of the Play Edition moniker? A theory roaming around the web claims Lenovo might be taking on the Nexus line and might be in charge of producing the next Nexus device.

On the other hand, the next-gen Nexus 10, which has been rumored extensively in the past few months has failed to make an appearance to this day, so maybe Google changed Samsung for HTC ?
