It's still in the early stages

The gaming industry has quite a lot of iconic franchises, all of which have brought new things to their individual genres or have even become a benchmark for new titles, even though they were launched a long time ago. Such is the case with the extremely popular Metal Gear Solid series of tactical espionage games, which put the genre on the map in terms of fan appeal.

The franchise, which placed players in the camouflage suit of Solid Snake, an agent of the government, laid a significant emphasis on story telling and made fans across the world really connect with him, as he progressed through various missions. The last game in the series, Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, achieved some pretty big sales, and was decorated with three distinctions at the Video Game Awards, which took place last weekend.

This franchise made its creator, Hideo Kojima, one of the most recognized persons in the gaming industry, giving him a rockstar-like reputation. He has recently talked to Collider about the work he is doing on the Metal Gear Solid movie, revealing that, although he can't be the director of the motion picture, he is very involved in this project.

Kojima has gone on to say that the movie is still in the early stages of development, and that, although things are progressing a bit slowly, the project is really shaping up to be a very successful one. The popular games creator has then tackled the subject of creating a game that will be launched along with the movie, in order to celebrate this moment, revealing that it does sound attractive and that only time will tell if such a product will be produced by him.

If you take into account the creative mind that Kojima has, the possibility of a new game in the Metal Gear Solid universe, coupled with the movie release, all these might make fans very excited. Although Solid Snake's swan song was MGS 4, a new taking on of the iconic franchise might be something very profitable for Konami, the company who published the series.
