Gamers will probably have access to second screen experiences

Hideo Kojima, the original developer of the Metal Gear Solid franchise, says that the new Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain can be played on whatever device and in whatever manner the player wants.

The executive producer is not yet willing to offer specific information on how the coming title will innovate on traditional connectivity and use of other media.

He is quoted by VG247 as saying that, "Moving forward I wanted to have a Metal Gear Solid that you could play on whatever you wanted, and that’s how we created Peace Walker. Now we’re presenting something again that’s console-only, but that’s not actually true of Metal Gear Solid 5."

The interesting detail is that neither Kojima nor publisher Konami has clearly said how the new game will incorporate social features.

The developer adds, "Metal Gear Solid 5 will have many more elements that aren’t limited to one console. You’ll be able to play the game on whatever you want, whenever you want."

Kinect and SmartGlass on the Xbox One are possibilities that Kojima has previously announced he was interested in and a similar experience could be delivered for the PlayStation 4 via the Vita handheld.

Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain will once more star Solid Snake, but the gameplay will be significantly changed, with an open world structure that allows gamers to tackle a variety of missions in the order they want.

The core stealth elements of the series will still exist, but players will also have options to deal with the moment when they are discovered prematurely.

Kojima is known for his interest in innovative technologies and for the desire to make Metal Gear Solid games the advanced products of their generation.

The Phantom Pain is expected to arrive at some point in 2014 on current and next-generation devices.
