The update was provided months ago, but failed to provide the needed fix

Some months ago, in November to be more specific, we reported a huge amount of Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro users were having problems with the device’s screen, which displayed the yellow color abnormally.

After a lot of complaints from customers everywhere, Lenovo finally pushed out an official BIOS and Energy Manager update meant to solve the issue permanently.

“An update system BIOS has been released that, in conjunction with a new version of Lenovo’s Energy Manager, adjust pixel and backlight intensity to optimize yellow performance, regardless of the selected power mode,” stated Lenovo back then.

“Both updates must be installed for the changes to take effect. It is recommended the BIOS update be installed prior to installing the updated Energy Manager.”

But as it turns out, the BIOS update does nothing to fix the issue, more than that, it actually made things worse in some cases, by adding a few other dysfunctions to the table, including the Wi-Fi connecting out, Bluetooth issues and the device not making from sleep.

Here what some users are saying on the Lenovo official community forums:

“Does anyone know if Lenovo is still working to actually fix this issue? After the Bios update and energy manager driver, I guess it is slightly better, but for sure NOT yellow. This has also been described on loads of tech review sites, so I know it is not just me.”

“I have seen a few other of these treads be deleted as well. Are we not supposed to ask about this, what I would consider to be, major issue?”

“I have installed the recommended BIOS update and energy management update to correct the inaccurate display of yellow on the Yoga 2 Pro. I just received this machine and contacted lenovo tech support to update this software,” says pablo_max.

“These updates did not solve my color issue on my Yoga 2 Pro 13. Other people have said it solved it for them but it has not solved it for me...I am wondering if this is an issue that can not be resolved since what I have read seems to indicate that this color issue may be inherent to the display. I noticed that it is particularly bad when using powerpoint. Any help in resolving this would be greatly appreciated as I really like this device but if I cannot correct the color issue it is a deal breaker,” pleads out myflyer.

“I can assure you the energy management and BIOS updates did not fix my yellow issue, nor bring it even close to yellow. Although I've not compared them, oranges also appear off. “

“At first, I thought maybe the fix it improved yellow slightly, but I think that was because the monitor brightness was raised to full brightness. Even on full brightness what should be yellow is ugly. The energy management update radically cuts battery life. (Other problems: WiFi dropping out to the point it is not reliable; display problems--occasionally, fonts will display super tiny and all the setting changes will not fix it; bluetooth problems; and not waking from sleep--this last one has been fixed.),” claims CR2.

Lenovo representatives have remained silent regarding the issue, basically forcing users to fend for themselves, which is what eventually happens.

User RastaCook accessed Intel HD Graphic Control Panel and, by tweaking the settings manually (an operation that took about 3 hours), managed to get the colors at an acceptable level. He posts the exact parameters, so those willing to try the method out can go ahead in doing so, the results are said to be acceptable.

“In the BASIC Options :

Set RED colors as follow Brightness: -3 Contrast: 50 Gamma: 1.3 Set GREEN colors as follow Brightness: -1 Contrast: 48 Gamma: 1.2

Set BLUE colors as follow Brightness: -4 Contrast: 48 Gamma: 1.2

In the ADVANCED Options:

Set Color Enhancement as follow Hue: 355 Saturation: 21”

Meanwhile, Lenovo seems to be ignoring the whole deal, and since we’re talking about a very expensive machine here, we’re surprised the world’s number one PC vendor is beating around the bush so much.
