A new Chromebook has seen the light of day in Canada

You might recall that at some point in May Google made an announcement saying more than 20 new Chromebook models based on the Intel platform will be landing in retail in the upcoming months.

Not only top players in the tech world are taking up building of Chromebooks but also companies you might not have heard about. It’s the case of Hexa, an obscure brand that now has its own Chrome OS laptop to share coming in the form of the Chromebook Pi.

The notebook is currently being sold only in Canada and we have no indication whether or not other markets are going to be offered the same treatment. The Hexa Chromebook Pi should sell for CAD$295 / $274 / €204, but Amazon Canada is giving it off for CAD$275 / $256 / €190.

Now, let’s see what you’ll be getting if you decide to pledge this sum of money. The Hexa Chromebook Pi is an average laptop, so don’t expect to see any Intel Core i3 onboard, like with Acer’s latest.

The new device is seemingly more akin to the Acer Chromebook C730 also known as Chromebook 11 and brings forth standard specifications, so there's nothing too mind blowing about it.

For starters, the Pi Chromebook arrives with an 11.6-inch IPS screen boasting the average resolution of 1366 x 768 pixels, something in league with most similar devices available on the market today.

As a positive note, we should note the Hexa Chromebook Pi measures 296 x 199 x 18 mm / 11.6 x 7.8 x 0.7 inches and weighs just 1.2 kg / 2.6 lbs, so it’s very light and easily transportable.

Under the hood, we have an Intel Celeron 1.7GHz N2830 Bay Trail-T processor, which is part of the latest Atom family fitted with 4GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage.

The specification list is completed by two USB ports (one of which is 3.0), HDMI out, audio jack for headphones, SD card reader, Wi-Fi modules and Bluetooth. Users can opt for the additional 3G connectivity if they feel like having that onboard.

The battery maintaining everything onboard alive is just a 3400 mAh one, but Hexa claims this is good enough to offer 7 hours of battery life.

The Hexa Chromebook seems like a decent enough device and it’s even lighter than the Acer C730 Chromebook we compared it to just a few paragraphs before, which weights 1.4 kg / 3.08 lbs. So if you’re looking for a cheap, decent lappy and you reside in Canada, you know where to go.
