The upcoming Heroes of the Storm MOBA from Blizzard is designed to allow players to obtain quite a lot of in-game content associated with their characters for free, but those who are interested in getting access to all that the title has to offer will need to spend some real-world money on it.

The progressions system for the new game will allow players to get experience in three different ways and use it to unlock more levels for their characters.

In an official site announcement the studio explains that “Each time you play a game of Heroes of the Storm, you’ll have the ability to earn experience based on your achievements in-game, as well as a win bonus for players of the winning team, and a friend bonus that is granted when you are teaming up with your Battle.net friends.”

The company is not yet willing to talk about the specific amount of extra XP that can be unlocked by playing with Battle.net friends or by winning a match in the Multiplayer Online Battle Arena game.

At the same time, gamers can undertake special Daily Quests, which are unlocked at Level 6 and will ask the player to deal with specific challenges based on the core mechanics of Heroes of the Storm.

There are also more special Hero Quests, which are unlocked at Level 10 and 20, deliver XP but also offer free additional content.

For every hero a player can use, he will have a starting skin, which comes complete with two tints for customization purposes.

Hero Quests can unlock an additional two, and gamers will be also able to pay real-world money in order to get more skins, while a number of exclusives will be offered at events and for certain tournaments.

Heroes of the Storm will also include mounts, and Blizzard adds, “All players will start with a free horse mount, and additional mounts can be purchased with real money. In addition, a unique mount will also be given as a reward to players who make a real money purchase during the Alpha and Beta phases of testing.”

The development team says that more details on the core mechanics of Heroes of the Storm will be offered as the game goes through its current technical alpha stage.

A beta version of the MOBA should be delivered before the end of the year, and the team will likely tweak a lot of the gameplay before that point.
