If you were excited to learn that Fox was bringing “The X-Files” back for a limited run in 2016 (a limited revival is what they’re calling it), you’ll be thrilled to hear that production has already begun. The first photos of Mulder and Scully together again have hit the net.
The series has been off the air for 13 years, during which time fans didn’t lose hope of seeing the duo again, even at those times when hope felt useless. With the current boost in interest in TV classics, which will bring back hits like “Twin Peaks,” “Full House” and maybe even “It” to the big screen, Fox knew an “X Files” revival had to happen now or never.
Production is now underway in Vancouver, and the paparazzi were on hand on set to snap the reunion of Duchovny and Anderson as the iconic FBI agents.
Though at first sight, the photos may reveal nothing, look closely because there are 2 potential spoilers in it: first of all, Mulder is not wearing his smart FBI clothes, even though Scully is. So either she’s working and he’s taken a day off, or he may have been kicked off / retired from the force, at least temporarily.
Secondly, Joel McHale has joined the cast and he looks sharp! He plays a “conservative news anchor who becomes an unlikely ally for Fox Mulder,” Variety says. This would back the theory that Mulder is in some kind of trouble, which would explain the fact that he’s in plainclothes.
“The X-Files” is executive produced by original producer Chris Carter and will air in the first half of 2016.
