The selfie hype is not over yet, as many handset manufacturers continue to launch smartphones that pack impressive front-facing cameras with the hope to attract more customers.

There aren’t too many smartphones featuring higher than 2-megapixel front-facing cameras, and there are even less that include above 10-megapixel secondary cameras.

The ZTE Nubia X6 is one of these smartphones, along with the Oppo N1, which comes with a swivel 13-megapixel camera in fact.

However, it looks like HTC is about to launch a totally different device that offers not only a 13-megapixel camera on both sides (front and back), but, wait for it, dual-LED flash in the front as well.

The first press pictures of the HTC Desire Eye have just been leaked along with some of the most important specs of the mid-range smartphone.

Obviously, its major selling point will be the crazy 13-megapixel camera in the front that features dual-LED flash. That’s supposed to allow users to take perfect selfies even in low-light conditions.

Even though the HTC Desire Eye seems to target selfie lovers, the Taiwanese handset maker included quite a lot of high-end features that are likely to appeal to all Android users regardless of whether they like to take selfies or not.

The selfie monster will be IPX7-certified and will pack stereo speakers

According to @upleaks, the HTC Desire Eye should be equipped with a powerful 2.3GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor inside, along with 2GB of RAM and 32GB of internal memory.

Moreover, the smartphone will be IPX7-certified for water protection and will be powered by a 2400 mAh removable battery. The Desire Eye is said to sport a 5.2-inch full HD (1080p) display and a 13-megapixel camera on the back with dual-LED flash as well.

Although the pictures do not show the Desire Eye having any loudspeakers in the front, sources familiar with HTC’s upcoming smartphone claim that the final version of the handset will come with stereo speakers that will be placed above and below the display.

The Desire Eye is expected to be officially unveiled this week, on October 8, when HTC scheduled a special event in New York.

It will be interesting to see how much the HTC Desire Eye will cost, seeing that it has quite a few high-end features inside, aside from the really impressive 13-megapixel camera in the front (with dual-LED flash).

We’ll be keeping a close eye on any additional details regarding the HTC Desire Eye, so stay tuned for more info on the matter.
